About the Event

IIn this workshop, Julie Simon, former Assistant Director of Admissions at the University of Michigan, will cover the three most common college essays used by hundreds of colleges including:

  • Why College or School
  • Community
  • Activity

Julie will:

  • Explain the importance of supplemental essays to the overall application in terms of helping the admissions counselor determine the student’s interest in attending and fit with the university’s mission
  • Critique strong vs. weak essay samples
  • Provide strategies to help student write more impactful essays
  • Help students brainstorm topic ideas for each type of essay
  • Provide individualized feedback on essay ideas and topic choices
  • Help students to outline and begin drafting each essay
  • Edit and provide detailed feedback on two drafts of each essay (3) online after the workshop

Workshops must have 4 students enrolled to be held. Registration is non-refundable unless the workshop is cancelled.
